Chair of European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs
Juan Fernando López Aguilar is the Chairman of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament, where he has served as an MEP since 2009. Prior to this, he was Minister of Justice of Spain and Head of the Spanish Socialist Delegation to the European Parliament. He has also served as a Member of the Spanish Parliament.
As a scholar, Juan Fernando López Aguilar has built an academic career as a Full Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Las Palmas and as a Jean Monnet Professor of Law and European Integration. He has published sixteen books and more than one hundred articles on comparative law, federalism and regionalism, fundamental rights and judiciary systems.
